Northamptonshire Removals The Rose of the Shires

Man and van

For the jobs a full removal would overcharge for

One or two people and a van sized to the load. Booked by the job, priced before we set off, and carried by us rather than by you and a friend who regrets volunteering.

Plenty of what moves around this county on any given week is one room, one van and a couple of hours. Wellingborough to Rushden. A sofa from Corby to a village outside Kettering. A student load out of Northampton at the end of term.

Those should be quoted as what they are. What they should not be is quoted at a low hourly figure that finds reasons to keep running.

Right for this

  • A single room out of a shared house
  • A student move to or from campus
  • A part load — the furniture, while you take the boxes
  • One large item: a sofa, a bed, a fridge-freezer
  • A collection from a warehouse or a marketplace seller
  • A run to storage and back again later
  • A short hop between two towns in the county

Not right for this

  • A whole house with a loft, a garage and a shed
  • Anything needing several vehicles on one morning
  • A piano, a safe or a full-size pool table
  • Office relocations with IT to crate
  • A move to France — different vehicle, different paperwork

For those, see house removals or office moves.

The runs we do most

Northampton to the surrounding villages, Wellingborough to Rushden and back, Corby to Kettering, and a steady stream of moves that cross the county line into Bedfordshire or Buckinghamshire. Anything on the A45 or the A43 is straightforward; the M1 makes longer one-way runs easy too, and those are covered on long distance.

Materials

Worth having for a part load, because loose belongings move around far more in a half-empty van than a stacked wall of boxes does. We can drop cartons off beforehand or bring them with us — what we cannot do is pack a room from scratch while the van waits.

Man and van — the practical bits

How many people come with the van?

One or two, depending on what is moving and what the access looks like. A wardrobe down two flights of a Northampton conversion is not a one-person job and we will not pretend it is. The crew size is on the quote.

Do you carry, or just drive?

We carry. A driver who sits in the cab while you shift a sofa is van hire with extra steps. Help if you want to — it is your move — but nobody expects you to.

Can you come at short notice?

Often, especially midweek. Weekends and month-ends are tighter across the county. Ring and ask rather than assuming, and if we cannot do it we will say so immediately.

How is it priced?

By the job. What is moving, where from and to, and the access at both ends. That gives the van size and the crew, and those give the price. If you add something on the day we tell you what it changes before we load it.

Do you cover the villages as well as the towns?

Yes. Single items and part loads out of village properties are common, and the same lane assessment applies — we check the approach before sending a vehicle that will not fit down it.

Can I travel in the van?

Usually, if there is a spare seat. Say so when you book so we send a vehicle with room rather than one already full of blankets.

Small job, quoted properly

Describe what is moving, which floor it is on and where it is going. You will get a price and a crew size, not an hourly rate and a shrug.
