The county
- Do you cover the whole county, or just Northampton?
- The whole of Northamptonshire. Northampton is the largest share of the work simply because it is the largest town, but Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough, Rushden, Daventry, Towcester, Brackley, Oundle and the villages between them are all ordinary bookings rather than exceptions.
- How do you work out what a move costs?
- Volume, distance, access and how much packing you want us to do. Access matters more than people expect — a stone cottage in Oundle with a narrow lane and a terrace in Rushden with resident parking are different jobs from a new-build in Corby with a driveway, even with identical furniture.
- Can you move us out of the county entirely?
- Regularly. Northamptonshire sits where the M1, the A14 and the A45 meet, which makes it one of the easier counties in England to move out of in any direction. London, the North, Scotland and the West Country are all routine one-way runs rather than special arrangements.
- Do you handle village and rural properties?
- Yes, and they are a real part of county work. Ironstone and limestone villages come with narrow lanes, gateposts set close together and the occasional gravel drive that defeats a wheel. We look at the approach before committing a vehicle rather than discovering it at the gate.
- What about the new estates around Northampton and Corby?
- Straightforward for access and frequently underestimated for volume. A three-bed new build with a garage and a loft holds a surprising amount, and the estate roads are often narrower than they look once cars are parked both sides. We survey properly either way.
- How far ahead should I book?
- As soon as you have a likely date, even a provisional one. Fridays and month-ends fill first across the county, and summer fills before spring does. Holding a provisional date costs nothing and moving it is easy.
On the day
- Do you dismantle and rebuild furniture?
- As standard on house moves. Beds, wardrobes, flat-pack units and table legs, with fixings bagged and taped to the piece they came off. If something was assembled in place and will not come apart safely, we say so at survey rather than trying it with the clock running.
- Can you move a piano?
- Often, and it gets scoped separately because the answer depends on the staircase more than on the instrument. Mention it when you enquire and we will look at the route out properly rather than guessing at it.
- What will you not put in the van?
- Anything flammable or pressurised — petrol, gas bottles, aerosols by the crate, solvents. Plants travel badly and are better in the car. Perishable food and anything living stays with you, as do cash, jewellery and documents.
- Do you supply packing materials?
- Yes. Double-walled cartons, wardrobe boxes, picture and mirror cases, tissue, bubble and tape. We can drop them off in advance so you can pack at your own pace, or pack the whole house for you.
- Is my furniture insured while you have it?
- We carry goods-in-transit and public liability cover. The limits, the exclusions and the process for reporting a problem are set out in the booking terms so you can read them before you commit. Anything unusually valuable should be declared at survey.
- Can you store things between completion dates?
- Yes — containerised storage, inventoried on the way in. Short overlaps and longer waits both work. Tell us roughly how long and whether anything needs to come back out first, because that changes how the container is loaded.
- Do you do office and commercial moves?
- Yes, across the county. Most of them happen out of hours or across a weekend so nobody loses a trading day. IT is crated and labelled by desk, and the building manager gets the paperwork they will ask for.
Distance, storage and abroad
- What is the difference between man and van and a full removal?
- Scale and crew. Man and van suits a single room, a part load or a few pieces — one or two people and one van. A full removal brings a larger crew, a bigger vehicle, materials and furniture dismantling. Describe the load and we will tell you which yours is.
- Do you move students and single rooms?
- Yes, and we quote them properly rather than as a favour. A room out of a shared house still has a staircase, a street door and a parking problem attached.
- How does a long-distance move work?
- The same crew loads and unloads, the vehicle is packed for distance rather than for a short hop, and driver hours are respected rather than pushed. Where a run genuinely cannot be done inside a day we say so at quote stage and plan around it.
- What about moving abroad?
- We run road moves to France, Spain, Italy and Portugal. The load goes out via the M1 and the M25 to the Channel, and the customs paperwork is prepared before you travel. The European pages set out what each country wants.
- What happens if something is damaged?
- Note anything visible on the delivery paperwork before we leave, and tell us as soon as you find anything afterwards. The claims process and the reporting window are in the booking terms. We would far rather hear about a scuffed table straight away.
- Do you work Saturdays?
- Yes, and Saturdays are the busiest day of the week, so they book out first. Sundays and bank holidays can be arranged with notice, and commercial jobs are frequently out of hours anyway.
- How do I get a quote?
- Send both addresses through the quote form with a few lines about access and what is moving, or call. We will come back to arrange a survey and put a written quote together — normally within a working day or two.
